If you’re on this post, you’ve likely read ‘You Again’ by Kate Goldbeck. If you haven’t and you don’t want to see any spoilers or have an idea in your mind before you read it, go and read it first and then come back.
So let’s put together a themed night for your book club, whether that’s with friends, with an official book club or you loved the vibes of the book so much that its for your birthday and it doesn’t even matter than the attendees haven’t read the book.
The main themes we can pull from ‘You Again’ are New York City, traditional delicatessen, stand up comedy, dive bars, pop up restaurants and reviews, house parties. Of course the plot includes a lot of other themes but I’m meaning ones we can reference to celebrate the book.

First things first – the location. The ideal location for this would of course be a stand up comedy bar or a traditional New York City style bar and you could totally book a table at a place like that, eat whatever they serve, chat about the book and even have a go at a bit of improv / open mic night. But realistically we want to have people round to our homes, around our dining tables, in our conservatories and pub sheds. In fact a pub shed would totally work for this. Randomly we actually do have velvet covered pub booths to work with but see what you can scavenge / make out of what you have. Its amazing what a few arm chairs, low lighting and soft music and a print can do for a mood.
